Meet the Judges
Pat is a retired Senior Superintending Veterinary Inspector of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM). Prior to joining the Department he spent fifteen years in general practice. Whilst with the Department he was involved in the veterinary medicine area in regard to policy, regulation and the implementation of European and National legislation. He is currently a course presenter in Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) approved training for Responsible Persons in Licensed Merchant’s premises licensed by the DAFM. Mr Brangan is a member of the Board of the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) and he is chairman of the Advisory Committee Veterinary Medicines of the HPRA.
Denis Healy, MVB. MRCVS.
Denis graduated from University College Dublin in 1976 with a Degree in Veterinary Science. He worked in general veterinary practice in the U.K. from 1976 to Dec 1981. Returned to Ireland and with a veterinary colleague developed a successful veterinary practice, in Mallow Co. Cork, servicing both the Large Animal and Companion Animal sectors. In November 1998 Denis joined the Department of Agriculture, working as a veterinary inspector in Co Louth, Agricultural House, Kildare Street, Dublin and later in Backweston, Celbridge, Co Kildare. For the past fifteen years the major part of his work in DAFM has been in the area of veterinary medicines, assisting in developing policies as regards the supply and use of veterinary medicines. Denis provides technical and on the job support to colleagues in relation to the licensing of businesses as wholesalers and retailers of veterinary medicines. Currently, he is part of a working group in DAFM which is contributing to drafting new EU Regulations on Veterinary Medicinal Products, which will set the standards for many years for the manufacture, supply and use of veterinary medicines.
John Keogh B. Agr. Sc
John Keogh is a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture at UCD where he studied Agricultural Economics. He worked initially for Coopers Animal Health, before moving to the drinks industry where he was Marketing Director for Bulmers. In 2002, he was appointed Managing Director of Tayto, and following its sale to Largo in 2006, he was appointed Managing Director of the Irish Dairy Board’s global consumer food business. More recently John has been CEO of the Solid Fuel Trade Group for the last four years. John was appointed CEO at Animal and Plant Health Association in Jan 2017.
