PROFESSIONAL VETERINARY EDUCATION
What Is It?
Following the hugely successful Professional Veterinary Education (PVE) event in 2018 we are running the PVE event again this year. The event will take place in Teagasc Athenry and the Clayton Hotel on 11th & 12th of September 2019. This year we are running two streams – 1. Large Animal & 2. Companion Animal. The Veterinary Council of Ireland has approved the PVE event and is allocating 39 credits.
Taking the opinions and needs for the modern day veterinary practitioner we included topics which are both practical and theory based. The practical aspect of the course for large animals will involve:-
Bovine Fertility Clinic
– Ageing of Pregnancies
-Detection of Twins
-Diagnosing Pathologies of the Reproductive Tract
-Body condition scoring
– Preparing faecal samples
– Identification of parasites
– Faecal Egg Counts
-Fitting of shoes
Oxidative Stress – Mineral Supplementation
Preventing, investigating and controlling respiratory disease outbreaks in young stock
Employment Legislation – Interactive discussions and activities on employment legislation for vet practices
Large Animal – 11th & 12th September 2019
Wednesday 11th September: 9am-6pm – Lectures, on farm practicals and laboratory workshops. (Bring Appropriate Clothing)

Thursday 12th September: 8:30m -5pm. Lectures, “Lameness practical workshop, oxidative stress, pneumonia and employment legislation.

Companion Animal – 12th September 2019
Thursday 12th September: Develop your veterinary ultrasound skills by attending this small group, hands-on practical course. Expert tuition using live animals.
